williamsburg oil paints

In the mid-1980s, Carl Plansky began making paint for himself and his friends in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. He had no intention of turning his passion into a business, but the interest of his fellow artists intensified to such an extent that the “Williamsburg Art Supply” business was established out of necessity.

Pigments are ground in alkali-refined linseed oil and made in batches of no more than twenty liters at a time. This gives us full control over the product, just like the French colorists of the late 19th century. All materials are measured by hand and every ounce of paint is examined. The paint is packaged in non-reactive 37 ml and 150 ml aluminum tubes. Larger quantities are packaged in aluminum cans using only the purest materials.

Williamsburg's handmade oil colors are used by the world's best artists whose work can be found at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and MOMA in New York, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, and Beaubourg in Paris.
