Armenian bole, also known as bolus armenus or bole armoniac, is an earthy clay, usually red due to the presence of iron oxide. It's one of the basic ingredients of the burnishing clay for water gilding technique.

uses

For the water gilding technique, mix with the rabbit skin glue solution to prepare the colored undercoat on which the gold leaf will be laid and eventually be burnished.

Mix in a ratio of 2:1, i.e. 2 volumes Armenian bole to 1 volume of the warm animal hide glue solution.
